Official press release:
John Farnham set to realise new single and first studio album in four years.

Yes, Jack’s Back! John Farnham will release a new single, ‘Trying To Live My Life Without You’ on 10th July, from his forthcoming new album, due out in August. ‘Trying To Live My Life Without You’ is a glorious, up tempo track, laden with saxophone and horns, and delivered with a gusto that only John could muster. Recorded in a laid-back studio setting at Channel 9 in Melbourne, John found himself completely at ease, the happiest he has ever been in a recording situation. The results are clearly evident on this single.

Said John, "'Trying To Live My Life Without You’ is indicative of the style of song we’ve chosen to record for the new album. It is drawn from the Hi Records catalogue and was originally released by Otis Clay in 1972. One of the things that appealed to me about this style of material is that the lyrics are so straightforward and simple so as to leave you in no doubt whatsoever what they are trying to say. This album is recorded pretty much live with the band, and the addition of a brass section. This is really the most fun I’ve ever had recording an album I can’t wait to take this music on the road!"

The video for ‘Trying To Live My Life Without You’ was taken from the filming of a ‘live in the studio’ performance, shot over two days in Melbourne. In keeping with the overall feel of the new album, one of the tracks on the single will be a version of Sam and Dave’s ‘I Thank You’, recorded at this same session.

‘Trying To Live My Life Without You’, and accompanying video will be delivered to media on Monday 26 June. This is John’s first single since his #1 hit with Human Nature, ‘Every Time You Cry’, and the album will be his first studio album since the release of ‘Romeo’s Heart’ back in 1996.

‘Trying To Live My Life Without You’ will be released on Gotham records through BMG Australia on Monday 10th July. The album will be released to retail early August and will be surrounded by an enormous publicity and advertising campaign.

The Voice  John Farnham and his Manager Glenn Wheatley, have become the new "Faces" of Australia's number one mobile phone network, Telstra MobileNet.

In the first commercial to air, John and Glenn are browsing in a small music store when a rather star struck young lady enters.  Trying to call her friend to tell her she is in a store with "The Voice", she encounters problems with her phone dropping out. Glenn kindly offers his Telstra MobileNet phone to make the call.  She quickly calls her friend back to finally tell her that she is in a store with John Farnham and ...... Paul Hogan.

The second commercial sets the scene for the introduction of FreeChat when John and Glenn encounter a taxi driver with a dire need to borrow a MobileNet phone to make a call.  With the meter ticking over Glenn is reduced to driving the cab after being reminded by John that the call the driver is making is free and the driver cannot drive while talking on a mobile phone.

The third in the series shows the ease of the SMS system with Glenn ducking into a cinema to see a film but telling John he is actually in an important business meeting.  Glenn raises the ire of all cinema patrons when John works out the system and calls to make sure his message has actually been sent.

The commercials air for the first time on Sunday 30 April 2000 and will run for the rest of the year in both 30 and 45 second versions.
